Visite en Arles et au Pont du Gard

Today the group took of Tours of Arles and Pont du Gard, two smaller cities in the South of France.  Arles embodied that Southern Flavor, with little cafes, narrow streets with shuttered windows, men chatting on park benches in fancy hats.  We checked out the amphitheatre, built in the first century A.D.  Today, Arles is famous for their bullfights, held in there each Sunday. Hopefully I'll get back to Arles this summer for all the festivities!
We also walked around the garden that supposedly inspired Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers, then had lunch in a great little cafe nearby.
After Arles, we took a bus to the Pont du Gard, a Roman Aqueduct also built in the first century A.D.  It's a beautiful spot over a river in the middle of the countryside.  We climbed to the top and had such a perfect view, watching the bathers down below jumping off the rocks, and the trails that snaked back in the woods.  It was great to scope out some of the South besides Montpellier, and once Saturday classes are over, hopefully I'll be able to spend some weekends exploring!
